Neal Stephenson wants to make a true-to-life swordfighting game

There’s a glut of Kickstarter-funded video games out there, but this one in particular has caught my attention.  Maybe because I’m a sucker for well-made videos starring badass type people upfront and centre.  Neal Stephenson, a cult sci-fi writer with some pretty epic books under his belt, is now turning his attention to making a video game about swordfighting.  He believes that video games today have yet to realistically represent the true art of swordfighting.  Extensive research and actual swordplay training has been done, so much so that Neal and his team of nerds and scientists are confident that they are ready to make a great game that incorporates real swordfighting techniques.  But they need funding.

So this is his pitch.  Seriously, even if you aren’t interested in swordfighting video games, the pitch itself is pretty awesome to watch.  And he actually makes references to a lot of modern day video games and the way they are designed to warrant that he knows exactly what he is talking about.  It’s called Clang.  Oh, and it also stars Gabe Newell as a blacksmith.  What more could you ask for?

I would love to plug the video right here, but WordPress is throwing a booboo about it.  So I’ll just tell you to watch the vid straight on the Kickstarter page here.

Talky talk
