See what I did there? All the trailers for new games are below the cut. Go see them.
The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot
This trailer is good fun. It’s got that very Shrek-esque subverted humor with the douchey knight, but it also presents the game’s mechanics very, very clearly. And that’s important. Probably the most important part they forgot to mention is that it’s a free-to-play game. From what can be seen, the combat looks absurdly sticky, and the Dungeon-Master-esque controls look good too.
The Evil Within
Coming from Shinji Mikami, he of Resident Evil fame, means this will be pretty good survival Horror with a capital H. Evil Within had me at the multi-tentacled bloodied woman charging at the camera. Of course, this is a slickly produced not-actual-game-footage trailer, so let’s take it with a grain of salt and see what the real deal looks like when it drops.
The voiceover is kinda’ grating, but the concept looks interesting enough. It’s like a cross between Left 4 Dead’s co-op play with Painkiller. I particularly like the mechanic where as soon as PVE ends each round, you get to fight your teammates for the loot.
Sir, You are Being Hunted
One of the writers of my favorite PC gaming news site, Rock Paper Shotgun, Jim Rossignol has been tinkering away at a game with two of his mates. A game where you’re dropped in a procedurally generated world about surviving against tea drinking dapper suit wearing robot hunters. It’s DayZ but without zombies, and a good dash of Britishdom. Needless to say, I’m excited for the total player agency that this game promises to deliver.
I am most excited for this game, and it so happens to be dropping tomorrow on Steam. A 4-player heist where you control specific talents that should help with the puzzles of each level. It should be a lark, especially when trying to coordinate everyone simultaneously. It’s Ocean’s Four, with a real charming look about it. It’s also great that you can play 4 players all on one computer screen. I’m definitely doing a coverage of this, so stay tuned.
